Using the Respecticon to Build a Respectful Society
Advertising will be important in the endeavour for a respectful society.
The respecticon will be the visual reminder of the the three principles of respectism: Respect for others. Respect for self. Respect for place. When the respecticon is developed, it can be used to help build a respectful society in exactly the same way that religions, corporations and nations use visual icons for recognition, growth and stability.
Here are 3 ways in which the respecticon can be used to build a better world.
1) Perpetual advertising. Perpetual, decentralized, global display of the respecticon. Individuals, groups and institutions dedicated to the principles of respectism make it their lifelong work to display the respecticon on their person, their property and every available media and to protect the respecticon from gross misuse. Basic pragmatic premise: Advertising works.
2) Unification of the respectful. Those already working to build a respectful society are isolated from each other and lost in complexity. Currently there are no obvious connections between people working to prevent child abuse, those working everywhere to preserve our fragile living space or persons working together to stay off harmful drugs to name a few. If enough groups working on a particular piece of respectful society place the respecticon next to their own brand, we will have a simple and compelling story: Together, we are trying to create a respectful society. The respectful need to name themselves, so that we may all survive. Pragmatic premise: Clear messaging works.
3) Countering sociopathy. In every part of the world, there are persons with anti-social and narcissistic personality disorders. By definition, these human beings have little or no empathy for others, are overly self-interested and often cruel. They are a small minority with a powerful influence on human affairs, who promote their own selfishness and meanness as virtues. A universally displayed respecticon would counter the ancient sociopathic message that greed and cruelty are necessary and good. Basic premise: Not advertising loses.
