Publicans

Here is an oldie from last spring. It's from a new book that's in production.

*
Last night, we talked about some pretty serious stuff over dinner.

Perhaps most serious was our discussion on what we as individuals can do to derail the high likelyhood of a true World War in the not to distant future.

The conversation led me to this piece out of a new book that I'm about to finish.

"I’m not quite sure why our hearts need to be awakened. Did we allow them to go to sleep as we became small adults, or does our heart lie dormant awaiting its time to blossom?

Either way, most of us know or have experienced a glimpse of the awakened heart. Perhaps it was the death of our father, or the death of a sister or brother. Perhaps it was your own near death.

Perhaps it was not death that awakened your heart.

Perhaps it was life as found in the new born babe.

Perhaps it was the care that was given to you as a child.

Perhaps it was the love of your partner.

Perhaps it was the love that you gave,

when you wanted to hurt because you were hurt.

And you saw your error.

And your heart awakened.

I think we all know that the love we have for our partners

is often not love.

I think we understand that the love we have for our children and parents

is often not real love.

I think we comprehend that the love we have for our friends and neighbors

is generally not love.

Many times our love is self serving.

Many times our love is charm and charisma.

Many times our love is just a good idea.

The love of the awakened heart is something different.

The love of the awakened heart is not the love of your self importance.

The love of the awakened heart is not the love of sentimentality.

The love of the awakened heart is not the love of your own goodness,

of your own forthrightness,

of your respect for others,

or of your honor to your own words and commitments.

The love of the awakened heart is the natural state of a child

who is not lost in the mystery of the sea of our knowing.

The love of the awakened heart is the love for a woman

who left you for another man.

It is the love for a man who left you without an education or youth.

It is the love for a father who touched you and violated you.

It is the love for a mother who had no time for you.

It is the love for a boss who treats you like a simpleton.

It is the love of a red light on a busy day.

It is the love of a bee sting.

It is the love of a blue sky that turns stormy,

and rains on your parade and party.

It is the love of your enemy,

Who would kill you if he had a chance."

Jesus said in the 5th chapter of Matthew,

Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye?

Do not even the publicans the same?

Perhaps the first thing we do to derail this coming calamity

is look within ourselves.

Then, we look at our Cultural Super Ego.

Then we see ourselves for what we have become.

Publicans.

With and without the "Re".

About 3 years ago I dropped into a black hole – four months of absolute terror. I wanted to end my life, but somehow [Holy Spirit], I reached out to a friend who took me to hospital. I had three visits [hospital] in four months – I actually thought I was in hell. I imagine I was going through some sort of metamorphosis [mental, physical & spiritual]. I had been seeing a therapist [1994] on a regular basis, up until this point in time. I actually thought I would be locked away – but the hospital staff was very supportive [I had no control over my process]. I was released from hospital 16th September 1994, but my fear, pain & shame had only subsided a little. I remember this particular morning waking up [home] & my process would start up again [fear, pain, & shame]. No one could help me, not even my therapist [I was terrified]. I asked Jesus Christ to have mercy on me & forgive me my sins. Slowly, all my fear has dissipated & I believe Jesus delivered me from my “psychological prison.” I am a practicing Catholic & the Holy Spirit is my friend & strength; every day since then has been a joy & blessing. I deserve to go to hell for the life I have led, but Jesus through His sacrifice on the cross, delivered me from my inequities. John 3: 8, John 15: 26, are verses I can relate to, organically. He’s a real person who is with me all the time. I have so much joy & peace in my life, today, after a childhood spent in orphanages [England & Australia]. God LOVES me so much. Fear, pain, & shame, are no longer my constant companions. I just wanted to share my experience with you [Luke 8: 16 – 17]. God sent his Son into the world to reconcile us to Himself (Col 1: 20.) Jesus Christ came not to tell us the answer to the universal problem of evil, but to overcome evil, sin and death by His everlasting love. Division and dissension, hatred and fear, aggressive power and exploitation could be conquered only by a gentle, suffering love unto death. By freely sacrificing his human life in dying for us, Jesus in His humanity was raised to glory by His Father’s Spirit and is now able to live within us.

Peace Be With You
Micky
