Everybody Knows

Everybody knows
that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls
with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows
that the war is over
Everybody knows
the good guys lost
Everybody knows
the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor,
the rich get rich
That’s how it goes
Everybody knows

I just hate it when I see a story like this

DEFIANT KHATAMI TELLS EUROPEAN UNION
IRAN WILL RESUME NUCLEAR CONVERSION ACTIVITIES
By Agence France Presse (AFP)
July 29, 2005

"TEHRAN: Iran will end a suspension of sensitive uranium ore conversion activities regardless of what proposals the European Union makes in the coming days to change its mind, President Mohammad Khatami announced yesterday.

"I hope that their proposals will, as agreed, allow for the resumption of [conversion] activities at Isfahan," Khatami told reporters, referring to a key nuclear plant in central Iran.

"But whether they do or not, we're going to resume the activities at Isfahan," added the outgoing reformist president.

Khatami, who hands over office to ultra-conservative Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in early August, announced the decision after a Cabinet meeting and said it had been made at an earlier gathering of top leaders of the regime.

The president gave no date for the resumption of conversion, the process that turns uranium ore into a gas as a precursor to enrichment.

But Khatami said the "deadline" for ending the suspension was the end of July or beginning of August when the EU3 of Britain, France and Germany are supposed to submit a detailed package of proposals on the future of Iran's nuclear program.

Iran suspended both conversion and enrichment last November as part of talks with the European Union on providing guarantees that its nuclear program is exclusively civil in return for a package of incentives.

The Europeans want Iraq to give up conversion and enrichment indefinitely but Iran is adamantly opposed, insisting on its right to produce its own fuel for its reactors under the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty."

And then the same day, I see a story like this.

Deep Background

In Washington it is hardly a secret that the same people in and around the administration who brought you Iraq are preparing to do the same for Iran. The Pentagon, acting under instructions from Vice President Dick Cheney’s office, has tasked the United States Strategic Command (STRATCOM) with drawing up a contingency plan to be employed in response to another 9/11-type terrorist attack on the United States.

The plan includes a large-scale air assault on Iran employing both conventional and tactical nuclear weapons. Within Iran there are more than 450 major strategic targets, including numerous suspected nuclear-weapons-program development sites.

Many of the targets are hardened or are deep underground and could not be taken out by conventional weapons, hence the nuclear option.

As in the case of Iraq, the response is not conditional on Iran actually being involved in the act of terrorism directed against the United States. Several senior Air Force officers involved in the planning are reportedly appalled at the implications of what they are doing—that Iran is being set up for an unprovoked nuclear attack—but no one is prepared to damage his career by posing any objections. "

Gosh, I don't want anyone here to damage his or her career.

Besides its hardly a secret.

Everybody knows,

But you,

And me.

And now we know.

Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died

Everybody knows that you love me baby
Everybody knows that you really do
Everybody knows that you’ve been faithful
Ah give or take a night or two
Everybody knows you’ve been discreet
But there were so many people you just had to meet
Without your clothes
And everybody knows

Everybody knows, everybody knows
That’s how it goes
Everybody knows

Everybody knows

Also note the piece, "Soldiers sucked into neocons' dreams of empire - War in Iraq is part of a long-term policy to gain control of oil" by Bob Herbert of the New York Times.

Oz, keep publishing the truth.
