Ghettoetry
from Ghettoetry,
by Geoffery D. Holman
To all of us who were once children, whom
were lost and still have found the child
inside of them…… awakened from a long
sleep.
For our children.
Somethin’s wrong in America/somethin’s wrong
down in Jena, U.S.A.:
I turned on the t.v. - my computer to- what did
eyes see? Racism clear as blue- skies- Now why
you wanna lie and tell me inequality aint here
today? You wanna close your eyes and tell me Jim
Crowe’s done packed his bags and gone away?
Tell me I’m wrong- every thing’s alright
here?
You wanna tell me I’m wrong-? Aint a damn thing
right here!
And it’s too far gone-
And it can’t go on-
And it’s too far gone-
It’s oh so wrong ah- (Yes it is)
They’re hangin’ ropes from a tree where strange
fruits swing- strange birds singin’ slow-and low.
They’re sayin’ that there’s somethin’ wrong with
People like we- just aint gonna stand round here
no more prayin’ for change-Equality-and the n word
was just set free-and a black soul still aint got
no freeeeeeee-dom that can set them free?
Set that young boy- free.
Somethin’s wrong in America- somethin’s wrong
down in Jena U.S.A.
It’s a muddy vision- a dark water sight-
Words are spoken- somebody’s got to fight!
American Justice – they say she’s blind but the
rest of the world’s gonna see her crimes-
American justice –she’s blind in one eye and
talks with a wicked tongue – Yes she does now-
White boys-break the law–get drunk and rape
Black women just for fun- A Black boy stands up
to declare he’s a man-but there he is-standin’
in jail- You wanna tell me I’m wrong-?
Aint a damn thing right here!
And it’s too far gone-
And it can’t go on-
And it’s too far gone-
It’s oh so wrong ah- (yes it is)
Somethin’s wrong in America-somethin’s wrong
down in Jena , U.S.A.
